An Operating System is the software which interacts with the hardware of a computer and serves as the intermediary between all the applications and the hardware, which includes peripheral devices such as a printer, a computer mouse or a keyboard. When you run an app, it sends requests to the OS through an API (Application Program Interface) and the interaction is done through a command line or a Graphical User Interface (GUI). Identical to a personal computer, hosting servers also feature an Operating System which acts as a host for the software installed on them, which includes script applications or server-side software such as a flash server, a VOIP server, etc. A virtual machine can be created on a physical one, so you'll be able to install a guest OS on it and have a different system environment in contrast to the physical server host Operating System.
Multiple OS in VPS
Our virtual private server
plans include three Linux releases which you could choose from for the Operating System of your new server - Debian, Ubuntu and CentOS. Aside from being absolutely free, the OSs are really stable and safe and the main reason to offer all 3 of them is to ensure that you'll be able to run each application that you would like, as different pieces of software have different requirements about the environment they work on. Each of the three OSs is supported by a large community of web developers who have generated a large number of software packages that you can set up and use on your VPS. Based on the Operating System that you choose, you will also be able to choose between 3 different Control Panels to take care of your hosting content. Of course, should you decide that you need some other OS, we could always reinstall the server with it. As an additional upgrade, we also offer weekly updates of the Operating System for max stability and security.
Multiple OS in Dedicated Hosting
The dedicated server
plans that we offer come with three different Operating Systems to pick from. They are all Linux distributions - Ubuntu, CentOS and Debian, and not only do they have no license charges, but they are also regarded as the most reliable and safe OSs. We provide three different ones since each one of them is backed by a separate community. The packages that you could add on your web server are different and this may matter if you want to install some piece of software with particular requirements about the hosting environment. In this light, the web hosting Control Panel that you can select for the dedicated server also depends on the Operating System that you'll select. You can pick any of the three Operating Systems during the order procedure, however if needed, we can always install the server once again with another one upon your request. As an optional service that you can add to the plan at any time, we can update your OS on a regular basis to keep it as risk-free as possible.
