An access log is a complete list of all the files which were accessed by the visitors of a particular site. Any file that was requested in some way shall be listed, so if you have one page with 3 embedded images, one video and one embedded text file, as an example, the access log shall contain a total of 6 entries - one for each of the six files which were accessed when the visitor opened the page. A log normally provides the file name and path, the date, plus the visitor’s OS, worldwide web browser and IP address. Occasionally you may also find the referrer Internet sites that sent the visitors to your Internet site. The data which an access log file includes is in human-readable plain text format. It may be processed by special software on a laptop or computer and used to prepare reports on the overall performance of a website, besides the web statistics which your web hosting server may have created.
Access Log Manager in Website Hosting
Our custom-built Hepsia Control Panel features a section dedicated to various logs and the access logs are one of them. Once you sign in to your website hosting
account and go to this section, you will find a list of all the domains
and subdomains you have. All it takes to allow the generation of access logs is to press a button which will be available next to each and every domain/subdomain. If the option is active, you shall see a download link along with the file size so far, so you will be able to save the file to your personal computer and examine it or process it with some application. Enabling or disabling the logs becomes effective instantaneously, so if you don't require one, you may stop it with simply a mouse click from the exact same section of the Control Panel. You shall still be able to access the already generated content by simply clicking the Download link.
Access Log Manager in Semi-dedicated Hosting
When you have a semi-dedicated server
account with us, it will not take more than a couple of clicks to permit the generation of access logs by our system if you require them. The feature could be enabled through the Hepsia web hosting Control Panel and this could be done independently for every single domain or subdomain you have inside your account. Whenever you log in and look at the Access/Error Logs section of the CP, you will see a list of all the hostnames with an On/Off button next to each one. One click shall activate the log generation and another one shall deactivate it, so you can control this feature with great comfort. A Download link inside the same section will enable you to save the created content as a text file, which you can then use on your PC. Even when the logs are disabled, you'll still be able to download the data that has been previously generated.
